After a gap of two years, I went to an ophthalmologist to check my eye power. During the examination, I was applied eye drops and asked to close my eyes for about an hour. It was totally a different experience - I got a call on my cell phone - now, how do I find out who it is before I take the call - especially when you have a plethora of calls that come from one bank / the other for some offer.
This is when, I found out how important it is to appreciate the presence of each and every organ and sense in your body. Most of us take for granted that we are fine and don't even think the importance of our senses in every day. But even an hour of just closing my eyes, got me into a realisation mode - how important and necessary our senses are.
This gets me to remember an old poem in Tamil by the great poet, Auvaiyar ...
"aridhu aridhu maanidaraai pirathal aridhu
maanidaraai pirandha kaalaiyin
koon kurudu sevidu neengi pirathal aridhu..."
- translated "It is rare to be born a human, Inspite of being a human, it is rare to be born without any ailments - blind, deaf, dumb"
- Thanks for how I'm created with the senses!!!
